My own children and I LOVE this series of informative comics from :01 First Second. This ongoing series has books written on different reading levels, but they are accessible for many grade levels. These books could be used to teach on elementary and middle school levels, but also integrated into high school and college level by teaching the idea of illustrating scientific principles.
Dr. Stone by Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi. Viz Media. This continuing Manga series if full of engaging science and post-apocalyptic imagery. Two high school students set off to restart civilization where everyone has been turned to stone - using science. There are also great philosophical questions raised, such as - should everyone be brought back? Could/should they choose who should be brought back? Should science be allowed to run its full course? Should gunpowder be “reinvented”? How does civilization begin? What is man’s greatest invention? (I could see this being a fantastic debate in a science or humanities course.). This would be a great series to have in a science classroom - even if not actually using it to teach. This is a way to create a classroom library and to open the boundaries of science - it really is everything.
